Basketball Recap: Max Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Waldron over Oldenburg Academy

Waldron easily dispatched Southwestern last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Waldron Mohawks fell just short of the Oldenburg Academy Twisters by a score of 49-46 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mohawks have suffered since December 27, 2024.

Waldron's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Max Jones, who posted seven points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in assists. Lucas Shaw was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points.

Waldron's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Oldenburg Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-6.

Waldron will take on North Decatur at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Decatur has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Oldenburg Academy has already played their next match (against Milan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
