Softball Recap: Santa Teresa Takes a Loss

Santa Teresa extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-14 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gilroy Mustangs. That's two games in a row now that the Saints have lost by exactly two runs.

Santa Teresa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Vidal, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

As for Gilroy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games.

On Gilroy's side, Ariela Yslava spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Averi Peters, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Santa Teresa is set to square off against their familiar foe Westmont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gilroy will challenge rival Branham at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
