New Richmond is 9-1 against Goshen since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lions will host the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. New Richmond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
New Richmond fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against St. Ursula Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 18th.
Gracie Seibert made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Molly Schuster also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Goshen had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Skye Shaw was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macee Stelle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Josie Purdy was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
New Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Goshen, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. New Richmond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Goshen struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
