Baseball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Keystone's Winning Streak

Keystone dropped their record down to 13-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Avon Eagles by a score of 1-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

As for Avon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Avon's part, not much got past Luke Holtzman, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Keystone off the board. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Holtzman.

On the hitting side, Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Cain, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Keystone will welcome Open Door Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.75 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Avon, they will venture away from home to face off against Hoover at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
