Volleyball Preview: Bernie Mules vs. Holcomb Hornets
Bernie has been on the road for seven straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will welcome the Holcomb Hornets at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Last Tuesday, it was close, but Bernie sidestepped Clarkton for a 3-2 win.
Bernie had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 15-25, 25-14, 25-21, 15-9.
Holcomb had won two straight games and Ayla Lawrence did her part to make it three on Tuesday. Holcomb came out on top in a nail-biter against North Pemiscot , sneaking past 3-2 thanks in part to Lawrence, who had six digs and five aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served three or more in the last five games she's played.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (107-106) Holcomb actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11.
Holcomb was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive games.
