Softball Game Preview: Golden Valley Grizzlies vs. Saugus Centurions

Golden Valley is 0-10 against Saugus since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will be playing at home against the Centurions at 3:15 p.m.

Golden Valley is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Thursday. They fell 7-2 to Canyon.

Rohan Elhamamsy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Ilana Watson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Saugus waltzed into their contest on Thursday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Hawks as they made off with a 20-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Centurions, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Riley Nelson looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Amelia Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Salazar, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Saugus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Saugus pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Golden Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
