Recap: Northside - Pinetown Panthers vs. Pamlico County Hurricanes
It was a good run, but the Northside - Pinetown Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 58-47 to Pamlico County. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Northside - Pinetown has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Northside - Pinetown had strong showings from Mariah Jones, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists, and Madison Scheffler, who scored 12 points along with six blocks and two steals. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliviajane Cahoon, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Northside - Pinetown struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pamlico County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sydney Whitley-Reese led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Whitley-Reese pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dania Galvan-Veliz, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks.
Northside - Pinetown's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-1. As for Pamlico County, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Northside - Pinetown won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bear Grass Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Bear Grass Charter will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Pamlico County will take on Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Martin County is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
