Recap: Catalina Foothills Falcons vs. Walden Grove Red Wolves

The Catalina Foothills Falcons pushed their score all the way to 34 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Walden Grove at home by a decisive 49-34 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Catalina Foothills in their matchups with Walden Grove: they've now lost four in a row.

Catalina Foothills' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Macen Perez-Brewer, who picked up 106 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Ford, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Even if they lost, Catalina Foothills' defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Walden Grove's QB was sacked five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Sean Brown and Jack Cartwright who racked up four sacks between them.

Walden Grove's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Montoya jr, who rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 67 receiving yards. Gabriel Smith was another key contributor, throwing for 147 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.

Catalina Foothills now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Walden Grove, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catalina Foothills will take on Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Walden Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mica Mountain will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
