The Dixie County Bears will face off against the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dixie County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Dixie County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Taylor County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1. The Bears' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Dixie County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Cobb, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Cobb has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask P.K. Yonge). They never let Eastside get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory on Thursday. The Blue Wave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tyler Belleville made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of P.K. Yonge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Darius Medley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and seven RBI. He has become a key player for P.K. Yonge: the team is 8-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Splitt, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
P.K. Yonge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
P.K. Yonge now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Dixie County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dixie County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like P.K. Yonge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dixie County took their win against P.K. Yonge in their previous meeting last Thursday by a conclusive 21-11 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Blue Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
