Basketball Recap: Lawrence Academy Gets the Win

Lawrence Academy hadn't done well against Ridgecroft recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lawrence Academy Warriors pulled ahead with a 71-70 photo finish over the Ridgecroft Rams. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Rams back in January, they had to take a 68-61 loss.

Lawrence Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter Hoggard led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Hoggard is now averaging an impressive 8.3 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Ben Woodard, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Lawrence Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Javion Leary and Antron Gray certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Leary dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds, while Gray went 9 for 18 on his way to 22 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The contest was Leary's third in a row with at least ten points. Frank Jones was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Lawrence Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Ridgecroft, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-5.

Lawrence Academy is taking a road trip to face off against West Craven at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lawrence Academy is facing West Craven at the right time seeing as West Craven is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Ridgecroft does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
