Recap: Cook Inlet Academy Eagles vs. Ninilchik Wolverines
On Thursday, the Cook Inlet Academy Eagles faced the Ninilchik Wolverines in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cook Inlet Academy fell 64-55 to Ninilchik. Cook Inlet Academy has struggled against Ninilchik recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Cook Inlet Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alek McGarry, who scored 19 points, and Ian McGarry who scored 18 points. McGarry scored a full 32.7% of Cook Inlet Academy's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jeremiah Dillingham was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Ninilchik was led to victory by Rowan Mahoney and Kade McCorison. Mahoney scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals, while McCorison dropped a double-double on 34 points and 13 rebounds. The game was McCorison's third in a row with at least ten points.
Cook Inlet Academy's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1. As for Ninilchik, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Cook Inlet Academy will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Ninilchik at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
