Basketball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Fossil Ridge SaberCats

The Overland Trailblazers will head out to square off against the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Overland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.

Last Tuesday, Overland was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to Lewis-Palmer. While the Trailblazers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rangers 12-7 in the first quarter.

Despite their defeat, Overland saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isreal Littleton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Siraaj Ali was another key player, going 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fossil Ridge). They blew past Greeley West 94-40 on Friday. With the SaberCats ahead 48-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Fossil Ridge's win came from a few key players Overland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Donovan Banek, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Walker, who went 8 for 11 en route to 16 points.

Fossil Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Fossil Ridge pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Overland, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
