Softball Recap: Bishop Amat Find Success

Bishop Amat won the last time they faced St. Paul and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bishop Amat Lancers came out on top against the St. Paul Swordsmen by a score of 10-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.

Samantha Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as ten players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryanna Mendoza, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Mendoza also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Kayla Johnson was another, scoring three runs while going 1-for-1.

Bishop Amat kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.6.

Bishop Amat's record is now 8-9. As for St. Paul, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Coming up, Bishop Amat will square off against West Covina at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. West Covina has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.6 runs per game on average), something Bishop Amat will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Paul, they will take on South El Monte in a tournament on Saturday. South El Monte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
