After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Wray (Colo.) held on for a 14-7 victory over
Wiggins (Colo.) on Saturday. The difference for the Eagles was
Cade Reinick ran for a touchdown.
After taking the lead on a
Thayer Sauter touchdown run, the Tigers went into halftime with a 7-6 lead. The Eagles scored the winning points with a touchdown run by Reinick that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Wray still trailed by 1 point going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped the Eagles pull out the victory.
Reinick played well for Wray in the victory. He ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Sauter played well for Wiggins. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 16 touchdowns on the season.
The Tigers' lone touchdown came on a 60-yard run by Sauter in the first quarter.
The Eagles went into the matchup giving up only 17.2 points per game. The seven points that Wiggins ended with were well below its average of 34.6 coming into the game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 36-26 win for Wray. The result could have been expected though, as the Eagles have won 85.7 percent of the last seven games between the two teams, with a record of 6-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Wiggins, which notched a 48-20 victory over Rocky Ford in its previous outing.
In a 1A North Central game next week Wiggins (5-1) takes on Yuma, and Wray (5-1) will go up against Highland also in a 1A North Central game.
