Baseball Recap: Farmington Comes Up Short

Farmington had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-11 to make it 17. They came up short against the Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Portsmouth Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

For Portsmouth Christian Academy's part, Grady Howe was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Howe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs.

In other batting news, Landon Hasty was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Cai Summers was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Farmington will be playing at home against Newmarket at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Portsmouth Christian Academy, they will challenge Nute at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rams will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
