Recap: St. Augustine Knights vs. St. Anthony Yellowjackets
The St. Augustine Knights lost against the St. Anthony Yellowjackets back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. St. Augustine took a 39-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Anthony. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Augustine in their matchups with St. Anthony: they've now lost four in a row.
St. Anthony was led to victory by Lisette Vargas and Laura Sierra. Vargas scored 12 points along with three steals and two blocks, while Sierra dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Sierra is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Laura Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
St. Augustine's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.4 points per game. As for St. Anthony, their victory bumped their record up to 16-14.
St. Augustine will head out on the road to face off against St. Joseph Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Anthony, they will be playing at home against Providence Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Anthony is facing Providence Catholic at the right time seeing as Providence Catholic is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
