Basketball Game Preview: El Cerrito Gauchos vs. Piedmont Highlanders

El Cerrito hasn't had much luck against Piedmont recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The El Cerrito Gauchos will host the Piedmont Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

While El Cerrito didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They managed a 67-63 win over Bethel on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gauchos.

Meanwhile, Piedmont fought the good fight in their overtime game against St. Joseph Notre Dame on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pilots by a score of 70-68. The Highlanders' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Piedmont's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for El Cerrito, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

El Cerrito was taken down by Piedmont 62-15 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point El Cerrito was down 37-6.
