Softball Game Preview: San Juan Spartans vs. Lindhurst Blazers

San Juan hasn't had much luck against Lindhurst recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Blazers at 4:00 p.m.

San Juan played against Highlands on Thursday and lost via forfeit.

San Juan will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Lindhurst extended their winning streak to five on Thursday. The Blazers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Rio Vista. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blazers have posted since April 9, 2024.

Ashlynn Wheeler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gisele Thao, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Lindhurst pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for San Juan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

San Juan might still be hurting after the 26-2 defeat they got from Lindhurst in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
