The Fitzgerald Spartans will challenge the Clawson Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Fitzgerald is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Fitzgerald blew Center Line out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Center Line got their revenge. The Spartans fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 5-3. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fitzgerald saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dexter Garda, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clawson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Mott 11-3 on Wednesday. Considering the Trojans have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ezra Lock was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Elliott Groves was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Clawson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Fitzgerald, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fitzgerald has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clawson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fitzgerald might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Clawson when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
