Baseball Recap: Xaverian Wins Going Away Against Holy Cross

Xaverian barely beat Holy Cross the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Clippers put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 on April 2nd.

Jude VanOoyen looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danny Cronin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Xaverian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lucas Zafra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Xaverian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Xaverian and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Holy Cross, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xaverian will take on Monsignor McClancy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Holy Cross, they will challenge Chaminade at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
