Softball Recap: Crystal River Beats Citrus for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Crystal River won the last time they faced Citrus and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Pirates walked away with a 5-0 win over the Hurricanes. The victory was nothing new for the Pirates as they're now sitting on five straight.

The result came thanks to Violet Flynn's shutout, as she gave up just six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Athena Childs, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Tidwell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Crystal River's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Citrus, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Looking ahead, Crystal River will be playing in front of their home fans against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Citrus, they will head out to square off against Pasco at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
