Basketball Recap: Troy Takes a Loss

Troy lost against Villa Park back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Troy Warriors fell 66-53 to the Villa Park Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 758th, while the Spartans are ranked 173rd).

Villa Park's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sabeel Khan, who went 6 for 10 to rack up 12 points and three steals. Khan is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Francesco Gambino, who went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points.

Troy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-22 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Villa Park, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Troy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Villa Park, they will face off against Holy Martyrs Armenian at 7:00 p.m. on February 12th. One thing working in Villa Park's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
