Softball Game Preview: Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles vs. Aiken Fighting Green Hornets

The Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles will square off against the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gray Collegiate Academy has three straight victories, Aiken has 25 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Gray Collegiate Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Aiken a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the War Eagles, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Maddox Long made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Gray Collegiate Academy let Kaley Anderson and Braelyn Triplett run wild. Anderson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Triplett went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Triplett has posted since back in May of 2024. Aspen Boulware was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Aiken, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
