Floyd Central scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 79-78 to the Jennings County Panthers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (66), the Highlanders still had to take the loss.

Floyd Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Reed, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 29 points along with six boards and three steals. That's the most points Reed has posted since back in January of 2024. Isaac Kaiser was another key player, as he made all 8 shots he took for 19 points and three steals.

Carter Kent continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Jennings County, going 18 for 29 en route to 42 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The contest was Kent's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Chase Young also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Floyd Central dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Jennings County, their record now sits at 8-6.

Floyd Central and Jennings County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Floyd Central will square off against Seymour at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st down 147 places (218 vs. 71). Similarly, Jennings County (ranked 94th) will meet Cooper (ranked 11th) at 2:00 p.m. on February 1st.
