Preview: Prosper Eagles vs. Braswell Bengals
The Prosper Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Braswell Bengals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Prosper knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Braswell likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Prosper got themselves on the board against Boyd, but Boyd never followed suit. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 47-0 win over the Broncos. Given Prosper's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Boyd is ranked 388th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nathan Tenbarge continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 147 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Braswell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Guyer on the road and fell 56-28.
Despite the loss, Braswell got a solid performance out of Jeremiah Shipp, who rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Another big playmaker for Braswell was Kahlil Davis, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Prosper's victory bumped their season record to 6-1 while Braswell's loss dropped theirs to 2-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Prosper has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 274.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Braswell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 258.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Prosper against Braswell in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 59-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Prosper since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
