Basketball Recap: Springer Comes Up Short

Springer was the 80-49 winner over Alamo Navajo when they last played one another back in January of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Springer Red Devils took an 83-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alamo Navajo Cougars on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (66), the Red Devils still had to take the loss.

Leading Alamo Navajo to victory were Zephaniah Guerro and Andy Pino. Guerro dropped a double-double on 23 points and 27 boards, while Pino dropped a double-double on 23 points and 18 rebounds. Guerro has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 24 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Scotty Guerro, who went 7 for 16 en route to 19 points.

Springer's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Alamo Navajo, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Springer wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 56-38 victory against Varsity Opponent on the 18th. Alamo Navajo has also already played their next game, a 55-41 win against Mountainair on the 18th.
