Softball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial and Richland squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Centennial had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 2-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.

Brooke Mayner spent all 11.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Centennial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalie Randall, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. Randall has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 29-8-1. As for Richland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 22 of their last 24 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 32-4 record this season.

Centennial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Richland, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 1-0 victory against Abilene on the 7th.
