Softball Recap: Maricopa Wins Going Away Against Catalina Foothills

Maricopa's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They blew past the Catalina Foothills Falcons 13-1. Considering the Rams have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Athena Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Darian Sophia Flores and Hailee Klutz - Phillips did most of the damage at the plate: Flores scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Klutz - Phillips scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alanee Calderon, who scored two runs and stole three bases.

Maricopa now has a winning record of 11-10-1. As for Catalina Foothills, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, Maricopa and Catalina Foothills will both be playing Vista Grande the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Rams will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
