Basketball Recap: Athenian Owls vs. College Prep Cougars
The Athenian Owls came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past College Prep with points to spare, taking the game 52-37. Given Athenian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Cougars are ranked 684th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Teni Salako had a dynamite game for Athenian, scoring 20 points. Another player making a difference was Evan Lucas, who scored 13 points.
Athenian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for College Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.
Athenian will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for College Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against the Jayhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
