Preview: Lyford Bulldogs vs. Progreso Red Ants
Lyford is 4-0 against Progreso since August of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Lyford Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Progreso Red Ants at 7:30 p.m. Lyford will be strutting in after a win while Progreso will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Lyford was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Gertrudis Academy, taking the game 34-24.
Among those leading the charge was Isaias Gonzalez, who picked up 159 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Aiden Olivas was another key contributor, throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Progreso, who are still winless after their eighth match. They had to suffer through a rough 55-0 loss at the hands of San Diego. Progreso was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Lyford's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Progreso, their defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Lyford against Progreso in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 58-0 win. Will Lyford repeat their success, or does Progreso have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
