Baseball Game Preview: Sedgwick County Cougars vs. Yuma Indians

Sedgwick County hasn't had much luck against Yuma recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will challenge the Indians at 11:00 a.m. Sedgwick County has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sedgwick County came up short against Merino last Thursday, falling 18-3.

Tate Renquist made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run.

Meanwhile, Yuma entered their tilt with Limon on Wednesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Badgers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted against the Badgers since April 18, 2017.

Brodie Kallweit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 14 Ks.

Sedgwick County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Yuma, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sedgwick County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Yuma struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sedgwick County might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Yuma when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
