Softball Recap: Wildwood Catholic Takes a Loss

Oakcrest hit Wildwood Catholic with a five-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders fell 7-2 to the Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on April 3rd.

Emma Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Julia Wallace was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Kristen Wareham, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Wildwood Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Oakcrest, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wildwood Catholic will square off against Wildwood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oakcrest, they will be playing at home against Pleasantville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
