The LKY Saints are taking a road trip to challenge the Grayson County Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. LKY is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
LKY barely beat Assumption Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. LKY put the hurt on Assumption Academy with a sharp 12-0 victory on Friday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.
Marshall McCartney looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, LKY got a massive performance out of Warren Scyphers, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Scyphers a new career-high. Truman Herald also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
LKY was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .619. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Grayson County came up short against Barren County on Friday, falling 8-2.
Chase Baunach was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jett Hawkins, who scored a run and stole two bases.
LKY is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Grayson County dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Grayson County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: LKY has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438.
