Newton is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. The game between them and Pineywoods Community Academy didn't end well, with Newton falling 47-32.

Meanwhile, Central Heights came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 62-46 win over the Eagles. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 745th, while the Eagles are ranked 1535th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central Heights' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-15. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Newton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
