Softball Game Preview: Frontier Titans vs. Garces Memorial Rams

For the second straight game, Frontier will face off against Garces Memorial. The Titans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Frontier 3.1, Garces Memorial 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Frontier is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on April 9th, they were much more limited against Garces Memorial on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 2-1.

For Garces Memorial's part, Jaiden Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. Gutierrez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garces Memorial's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Reese Bowles, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Bowles is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

The win (which was Garces Memorial's third in a row) raised their record to 17-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Frontier, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Frontier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Garces Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
