Basketball Recap: Ida Baker Comes Up Short

Ida Baker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 48-19 defeat at the hands of the Babcock Trailblazers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 199th).

When it comes to explaining why Ida Baker lost, don't look at Maia Berdebes. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. What's more, Berdebes also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Meikah Ferry was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Makena Ferry was another key player, putting up ten points.

Ida Baker's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Babcock, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Ida Baker wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-47 defeat against Estero on the 7th. As for Babcock, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Moore Haven at 5:00 p.m. on January 14th.
