Softball Recap: Wakeland's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Wakeland came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the McKinney Lions as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

Kayla Courcy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Wakeland got a massive performance out of Kaylee Kinney, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Kinney a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Claire Schreiner, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Wakeland lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Wakeland's record now sits at 5-1. As for McKinney, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-6-1.

Coming up, Wakeland will host Walnut Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Walnut Grove's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Wakeland's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for McKinney, they will take on Sachse in a tournament on Friday.
