Baseball Game Preview: Elgin Owls vs. Duncan Demons

For the second straight game, Elgin will face off against Duncan. The Owls will challenge the Demons at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Elgin 2.4, Duncan 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Duncan hit Elgin with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Owls fell 6-1 to the Demons. The match marked the Owls' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Jaxon Southerland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Elgin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kade Hilliary, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Duncan is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Elgin, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 12-1 and their overall record down to 23-5.
