Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Land O' Lakes Gators
The Springstead Eagles just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Land O' Lakes Gators at 8:00 p.m. on January 24th. Springstead has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 391 points over their last six matches.
Springstead posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 66-24 win over Citrus at home. Given Springstead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Citrus is ranked 667th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austin Nicholson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Sayre, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Land O' Lakes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their seventh straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 62-44 to East Lake. Land O' Lakes has struggled against East Lake recently, as their contest on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Land O' Lakes had strong showings from Jordan Massie, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Maxwell Moore, who scored 16 points. Massie has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayden Todd, who scored eight points.
Springstead is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Land O' Lakes, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Springstead couldn't quite finish off Land O' Lakes in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 56-54. Can Springstead avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
