Baseball Recap: Whitley County Wins Going Away Against Southwestern

Whitley County won the last time they faced Southwestern and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Colonels put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Colonels have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Whitley County got a great performance from Christian Wilson as he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Wilson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Henry Bowling was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Caden Mountjoy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Whitley County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwestern only posted an OBP of .207.

The win made it two in a row for Whitley County and bumps their season record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Southwestern, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Whitley County will welcome Tates Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwestern, they will venture away from home to take on Wayne County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
