Football Preview: North Harrison Cougars vs. Charlestown Pirates

The North Harrison Cougars will square off against the Charlestown Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, North Harrison earned a 48-35 win over Corydon Central. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Bryce Fessel was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 334 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, North Harrison was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 508 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corydon Central only rushed for 273.

North Harrison's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Grayson Clunie and David Langdon.

Meanwhile, Charlestown took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 35-6 victory over Clarksville.

Charlestown relied on the efforts of Boomer Hester, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and Ryan Shields, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.

Charlestown wouldn't let Clarksville keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Cameron Wimsett, Blake Thacker, and Jacob Hulsey picked up one apiece. With that strong performance, Thacker is now averaging an impressive 6 total tackles per game.

North Harrison now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Charlestown, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

North Harrison was able to grind out a solid victory over Charlestown when the teams last played back in September of 2023, winning 34-22. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Charlestown's Clay Mcclelland, who rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 130 yards on eight of 17 attempts.
