Basketball Recap: West Seneca West Falls Despite Big Games from Ava Gunnells and Bellarose Milligan

If West Seneca West was feeling good fresh off their 84-25 takedown of Buffalo Culinary Arts last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Seneca West Warhawks fell to the Kenmore West Blue Devils 68-62. The Warhawks were up 45-27 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the defeat, West Seneca West had strong showings from Bellarose Milligan, who went 8-for-18 to rack up 21 points in addition to six steals and five assists, and Ava Gunnells, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. With that strong performance, Gunnells is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Jayden Ecker, who posted five points along with six assists and five rebounds.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: West Seneca West was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. This was only their fourth loss (out of 19 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

West Seneca West's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Kenmore West, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
