Softball Recap: Cookeville Cavaliers vs. Wilson Central Wildcats

Cookeville extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wilson Central Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on April 1st.

Kadie Presley and Kali Webb stepped up to the plate in a big way. Presley got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one double, while Webb went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbi Romero, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for Wilson Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 1st.

On Wilson Central's side, Harlie Ward looked comfortable as she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sophie Lannom, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last 14 contests. Mallory Lee was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Cookeville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-6 defeat against Clinton County on the 19th. As for Wilson Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 16-1 victory against LaVergne on the 22nd.
