Softball Game Preview: Norwell Knights vs. Southern Wells Raiders

Norwell is a perfect 6-0 against Southern Wells since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Knights will head out on the road to take on the Raiders at 5:00 p.m. Southern Wells took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Norwell, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Norwell made easy work of Angola and carried off a 12-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Abby Wagner was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Reese Frauhiger was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Southern Wells was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Winchester Community. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Raiders have suffered since April 6, 2024.

Alexis Pennington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Southern Wells saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Jones, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Norwell's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Southern Wells, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything went Norwell's way against Southern Wells in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Norwell made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
