Football Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Silver Creek Raiders
The Homestead Mustangs will head out to take on the Silver Creek Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
While Mustangs fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They were the clear victor by a 42-18 margin over Yerba Buena on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Silver Creek took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). Their defense stepped up to hand Evergreen Valley a 20-0 shutout.
Jasean Amataga was a one-man wrecking crew for Silver Creek as he rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Amataga got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible95 yards.
Silver Creek was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
