Basketball Recap: Denver South Takes a Loss

Denver South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They fell 73-62 to the Northfield Nighthawks. The game was a 33-33 toss-up at halftime, but the Ravens couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Denver South lost, don't look at Alex Gehring. Despite the final result, she posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Gehring a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abriella Garcia, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points and three steals.

LaPorsha Allen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northfield, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Northfield is undefeated when Allen posts ten or more boards, but 7-8 otherwise. Brynn Robinson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Denver South's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Northfield, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Denver South does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northfield, they will challenge Denver East at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Denver East is on a four-game streak of home wins, Northfield a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
