Basketball Recap: Kyla Hollier Key Part of a Team Effort in Roughriders Win

Roosevelt's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 65-54 victory over the Berthoud Spartans. Given the Roughriders' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Spartans are ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roosevelt's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyla Hollier, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 21 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hollier has scored at least a third of Roosevelt's points. Paige Wright also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Roosevelt was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berthoud only racked up 11 assists.

Avery Pfohl and Sofia Sigg certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Pfohl went 7 of 14 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds, while Sigg posted 15 points. That was a full 35.2% of Berthoud's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Slauson, who put up six points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Roosevelt's record is now 9-3. As for Berthoud, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-4.

Roosevelt didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-42 win against Timnath on the 21st. Berthoud has also already played their next match, a 76-26 victory against Wellington on the 21st.
