Basketball Recap: Gulfport Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Friday, the Gulfport Admirals wrapped up 2024 with a 51-32 victory over the Pell City Panthers. Given the Admirals' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 112th in Mississippi, while the Panthers are ranked 233rd in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ebonecia Forman and Brooklyn Rains certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Forman posted ten points and three steals, while Rains had four points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those ten points gave Forman a new career-high.

The win made it two in a row for Gulfport and bumps their season record up to 6-7. As for Pell City, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.

Gulfport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-44 victory against New Brockton on the 28th. As for Pell City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-47 loss against Bryant on the 28th.
