Basketball Game Preview: Southwood Knights vs. Northfield Norsemen

An exciting North v. South battle is about to be fought. The Southwood Knights will take on the Northfield Norsemen at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Southwood is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Northwestern on Friday. Southwood took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northwestern. The Knights have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Churubusco by a score of 57-47 on Saturday. Given the Norsemen's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Eagles are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northfield's win came from a few key players Southwood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Laney Haupert, who made all 6 shots she took to post 17 points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two). Callie Hoffman was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Northfield's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Southwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.

Southwood came up short against Northfield in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 42-32. Can Southwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
