Baseball Game Preview: West Salem Titans vs. Air Academy Kadets

The West Salem Titans will be taking part in a tournament against the Air Academy Kadets at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

West Salem is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 20th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Highland, falling 16-10.

While Air Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over Roosevelt on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kadets.

Keegan Cornelius looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Logan Sullivan was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Caleb Hendrickson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Air Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-0-1. As for West Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

West Salem took their victory against Air Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 11-0. Will West Salem repeat their success, or does Air Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
